Sefton Recovery Group

We are a network of 350 ‘Experts by Experience’ (people with lived experience of ‘mental illness services’ family and friends) who practise Wellness Recovery Action Planning and self agency. We are dedicated to awakening individuals, organisations and communities to Recovery and WRAP self management approaches. We define Recovery as ‘taking back control of our life in the presence or absence of illness through self management approaches such as WRAP’.

WRAP Book cover One member of the group trained as a Mental Health Recovery Educator with Mary Ellen Copeland (www.mentalhealthrecovery.com) in Southport, England. We have introduced, enable and continue Recovery and WRAP education and training in our local specialist ‘mental illness’ trust in Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby. A successful cross platform collaboration with Southport College of Further Education; Seaforth Adult Education Centre and Liverpool City Community College enabled the development of our wellness toolbox sessions for people experiencing mental distress.

We publish the anglicised version of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), ISBN 0-9549295-0-0, January 2005 and a second impression was printed in October 2006. The sale of WRAP books goes toward our work in awakening individuals, organisations and communities to Recovery and WRAP self management approaches.

With the support of Piers Allott from the outset and throughout we emerged in Spring 2002 in response to a paper entitled ‘Discovering Hope for Recovery from a British Perspective’.

We are affiliated to MIND serving the citizens of Sefton, Liverpool and Kirkby and to whom we owe special thanks.
